When Mess It Up teamed up with Be More Now, exciting things began to happen…. adults were allowed to have some laughs while at the same time strengthening their team, coming up with new ideas, learning to take risks and feeling the freedom to make a positive impact in their role.
We are both Mums (with daughters as best friends) who have regular Friday afternoon catch-ups which would include talking about our businesses among other random discussions. Kath was running Mess It Up – a messy play business for preschoolers, while Ngaire was running Be More Now – facilitating behaviour change.
It wasn’t long before we asked – Why are kids having all the fun?
And from that Messy Innovation was born. We are both passionate about empowering people to make positive changes in their lives by worrying less about consequences and having more fun. Not holding back on life because you’re worried about making a mess.
“Children offer the finest expressions of openness and flexibility. They play and laugh freely, and find wonder in the smallest things. They are infinitely creative because they haven’t yet built up the layers of conditioning that create limitations and restrictions”. Deepak Chopra
We discovered how messy mediums, and connecting to our ‘inner child’ could be used to solve problems and generate innovative thinking in the business world. The power of using the whole brain by stimulating all of the senses has been well documented. We believe that new ideas happen not through hard work sitting in front of your computer screen, and over analysing, but by getting out – letting go of your inhibitions, and having a few laughs while you’re at it.
More about Kath…
Kath founded Mess It Up in 2015, bringing Messy Play sessions to preschoolers.
I am passionate about helping people to let go of their inhibitions – particularly relating to getting into mud pies. Messy Play has taught me that the benefits are there not only for the children, but the parents get a lot out of it as well. There are laughs to be had when you can relax about getting a bit of paint on your top.
On a personal level, prior to getting into the “messy business”, I have a Bachelor of Health Science, and have worked as a Physiotherapist in Auckland and London. I have three young girls at Primary School. I enjoy coaching little nippers surf lifesaving, as well as playing and coaching netball teams. I have a passion for process and abstract art, and over the summer my husband and I enjoy surfing and I am Patrol Captain at Waipu Cove Surf Lifesaving Club.
More about Ngaire
I have a behaviour change business called Be More Now. I help Organisations and their talent reach their potential through transformational journeys. I focus on behaviour rather than skills and empowering individuals and teams to become authentic, purposeful and present.
I am passionate about working with groups and have two main beliefs.
- It’s not what you know it’s how you use it
- What’s getting in our way is normally ourselves
I can get in my own way by over-analysis and messy innovation is a great way to let go and activate other parts of our mind. Up till now I’ve designed innovative workshops by downing tools at my desk and going out running but this way is much easier on my knees!
I am an Associate Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation, hold a Certificate in Adult Education and a Chartered Accountant by profession.
